fan always on--does this cause a problem? 200 1982

1982 240 DL, 260K

The fan clutch seems to be malfuncioning in our 240 in that the fan is always on, even at highway speed. This is mostly our extra around-town car, so i'm not necessarily inclined to change this part unless it leads to problems. Can this do any damage down the line? If I pick up a clutch, is there much labor involved getting it installed? (i'd do the work, but we live in a condo--rules against auto work on premises). Thanks!
