Driving the Point Home... 120-130 1967

Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. Many thanks to you all. With your help, the following recent events occurred:

- Traced compression problem to burnt exhaust valves.
- Removed head, sent to machinist for hardened seats and valve job.
- Reinstalled head. Heard a knock. Chased knock.
- Engine overheated. Chased air out. No more overheating.
- Battery died (new battery last winter) no doubt due to sitting for a month in the cold. I got a jump last night, drove it for a few minutes then brought the battery in the house for a warm sleep. Not enough room in the bed for all of us - Wendy hated sleeping on the couch.

Incidentally, Wendy says the knock was always there. She drives Virginia every day, unlike me. I am going to give Mike in Westchester a call and see if I can drop by on Saturday for a listen. Maybe this 'knocking' is my hypersensitivity after working so extensively on the engine.

One more quick question - last week, during my brief 'overheating' run the car was peppier than heck. Three days and 40 fewer degrees Farenheit later, things are not so smooth. I think I need to adjust the air-fuel mixture. Check my math:

Cooler air is more dense, so I need to lower the jets, yes? Maybe 1/2 turn (2 or 3 flats)?
