how much brake dive is normal? 700 1990

The subject says it all. How much brake dive is normal? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to figure out what condition my struts and shocks are in, and whether or not I'm due. A few months ago, I posted asking about this, but I never quite got around to making a purchase. I think *I'm* ready to buy replacement shocks/struts now, but I don't know if the old brick NEEDS them, so I want to make sure before forking over the $$.

From a standstill, if I let off the brake and let the car idle forward a bit, and then slam on the brakes, the car does seem to tip forward quite a bit. There doesn't appear to be any oscillation. When I do the "bounce test" on the corners, the car appears to settle pretty quickly.

Last time I replaced all 4 was back in April of 2001 so it's been almost 5 years, and since then I've added on about 35-40K miles, but I was told that time and mileage isn't really a good indicator since wear on shocks/struts depends on road conditions and what not.

Thanks.
