What kind of engine do I have? 700

Barring someone having done an engine swap or a badge or trunk lid swap, you have a B230F engine. F is just the series of slight variations in the B230 and wouldn't make a difference to any commonly purchased parts. You have 8 valves. The B234 is basically the same engine, but with 16 valves.

Almost as significant to your shopping list is whether you have Bosch engine management or Rex-Regina. Every 1989 240 GL I have seen has had Bosch LH 2.4, but there are rumors that some '89s had the Rex-Regina system used in later 740s and 940s. If your ignition coil is round, you have Bosch.

All this and much more, is in the 700/900 FAQ which you will find under LINKS at the top right of this page.

Have fun!
