help in Long Island, NY? 700 1990

Are there any friendly, knowledgeable and helpful folks living in or around Long Island NY who can help a newbie with his Volvo? I have '90 740 (about 9 months old with 105K mi) and I've spent more than double what I paid for it on repairs.

Most of these repairs were prob either avoidable, or could be significantly less than what it cost me if I really knew how my car worked. I'm hoping there are other users of BB who live in or near Long Island who I could sorta bring my car to and could advise me about the best way to go about fixing stuff? Alternatively, could people suggest a GOOD mechanic who won't fleece me (I know that's hard), but I'm sure there are good people out there.

I love this car and I'm fighting everyone, the parents, the girlfriend and the co-workers to dump it and buy *shudder* Japanese.

Please help guys!
