George,

Of course, you are correct -- the fiber gear was replaced with another fiber gear. The steel crank gear was left as is. The reason for replacement was a hub separated fiber gear.

Its supposed to be quite nice weather tomorrow and I'm working from home. I should be a good day to get dirty. I'll try to check lubrication at the rocker arms with the oil filler cap off the valve cover.
