Overdrive, Downshifting, etc 1800 1971

If everything is wired properly and working properly, the OD automatically drops out when you leave 4th gear. Some people have bypassed the lockout so they can have OD in every gear, but that is rare. Also, the old parts sometimes don't work as they should, so in theory you could still have OD when out of 4th. I am no expert, but my understanding is that this can cause some additional wear, but nothing catastrophic. The major problem is if you ever engage OD while in reverse. That is instant death, as I understand it.
