To review.
Dull thudding that occurred when driving over road irregularities has not gone away despite new;
struts and strut bearings
new ball joints
new sway bar links
new A arms w/bushings.
Can't make the sound happen by rocking the car. The car drives very well but with 1500$ of parts and labor, the continuance of this problem (a reverberant dull thunk) is becoming, now, more than a simple annoyance!
The sound appears to be emanating from the passenger side, however I can feel some of it translated into the drivers side floor under very rough road conditions.
The claim that " cars make noises over bumps" doesn't cut it, he stated it " may be a bad new strut" which while theoretically possible, I doubt. What are the statistical chances that the same sound on the same side would be attributable to a bad replacement Volvo shock, fairly slim I would think.
SO...back it goes next week to the current guy. If he can't resolve the issue, and since I am loosing my patience with this car and am seriously thinking of going over to the dark side (MB E class), I may give the dealer in either White Plains NY or Stamford CT take a shot at it.
QUESTION, do any of you metro NYers have experiences with either of the 2 Volvo dealers in my area, or are there independent Volvo repair shops you trust (Larchmont, New Rochelle, Rye, etc)?
AND is there any possibility that I missed something with respect to possible noise sources (motor mounts, etc)
BTW. The parking brakes are not working so I guess I may be in for another 700$ repair bill.
More next week
Thanks to all of you so far.
