Code P0115 on 96 965 900

It's been awhile since I've posted. The '96 965 wagon has been stunningly reliable, and is now closing in on 150,000 miles. But ... The other day my wife was driving. Came to a stop sign. Accelerating from stop, the car acted like it wanted to die, then caught, but simultaneously set the check engine light. It's run fine since. This happened three days ago. Finally pulled the code, P0115, which comes up generically as Engine Coolant Temp Circuit Malfunction. My first thought is the coolant sensor for the computer, either failing or poor connection?
Do any of the more experienced Volvoistas have any insight on what a possible cause is, and if this is related to the momentary loss of power my wife experienced?
Thanks as always, Richard
