Found Treasure 120-130

Hello All,

I've always said I'd rather be lucky than good...and luck was on my side this weekend. I got a tip that there was an Amazon in Calgary that was about to be broken for parts with a strong B20, so I headed up the road for a look. Turns out that not only is the engine good (compression 140 across the board) but it has an M41 transmission installed (just as I wanted) with the oringinal shifter location. So I'm thinking this is going to be great, if it runs and shifts properly. Well it runs like a clock and shifts with a nice click into all gears (my M40 is sloppy, dispite efforts to repair it, and there is a trick to getting 3rd).

So far so good, I pop the hood to discover that the distributer is a Bosch electronic unit and looks newish and there was an alternator attached (also Bosch). This was the clincher. The body was in terrible shape, but the mechanical bits were all there. It has a good set of SU's and started right up and idled great (mine is a little hard to start sometimes). The best part is that the current owner (who has a bunch of classic Volvo's and a garage to die for), is going to pull the engine and transmission for me and give me all the bits (shortened drive shaft, relays, voltage regulator, wiring harness for OD, etc)for a reasonable price.

The B20 has the B head, and I couldn't check the function of the OD (solinoid engages). The plan is to take it all apart and freshen it up and see how things go, and I expect they'll go nicely with an engine that has more than 100 psi worth of compression! Are there any websites that explain what to do to the OD? I understand that they are pretty much bullet proof, but things like gaskets, O-rings, fluids, and what to look for when out of the car? If not, I'll take pictures etc when doing the refit.

Volvo nuts are the best people.

Cheers,
Craig
