auto transmission oil leak out the plastic mesh insert? 200 1989

Brickboard,

My 1989 240 DL automatic sedan has developed a small oil leak.

The oil seems to be coming from my transmission. On mine, the very front side of the transmission on the passenger side has a plastic insert about 3 inches square. (There is another one on the front botom.) This insert is formed in a mesh pattern, my guess is to allow air circulation or cooling.

The oil leak appears to be runing out the front corner of the plastic mesh insert.

The leak is pretty slow, but enough to leave an oil spot on my garage floor.

I don't detect a red color to the oil but I can't say for sure that it isn't.

Has anone had a simnilar problem and what do you think the problem may be? Please advise. Thank you.
