ODOMETER NOT WORKING AFTER NEW GEAR 200

Friends:
Recently, I replaced the troublesome gear in the odometer of my 1991 245. The odometer worked for a while and then it finally died, not long after replacing it. I took it apart and all appeared normal. My speedometer works as does my temp and fuel guages. Is there another fix for this problem? Could this be at the sender, where ever that is or, do the motors in the odometer crap out?
Your input will be appreciated,
John
