Occasional Exhaust Smell 200

Hi Guys,

I recently backed my 240 volvo sedan into a curb and had to get a new muffler installed. I had Meineke do the work since it was the last week in December and my usual people were taking the week off.

I thought the mechanic did a good job. He welded a new exhaust chamber onto the preexisting pipe and configured a new tail piece that fit much better than the old one.

Now I'm noticing an occasional slight exhaust smell from time to time. It seems to come and go but the car performs well. I mentioned these symptoms to a person who drives a 240 and he thinks that I might have a problem with the catalytic converter. If it is indeed the "cat," I would appreciate any advise about how to proceed with the most affordable repair.

Also, I let them do a $19.95 oil change on the car. I usually pay upwards to $40 at my Independent shop. Do you think that was a mistake? I guess I'm not using a genuine Volvo filter but the car seems to be running fine.

Any feedback?

Thanks,

Chuck Reuben
