Smog time 200 1989

My old car was a Diesel Volvo, the 240 that I currently drive has a gasoline engine and it's time to get it smogged. I'm worried that it probably won't pass on its first time. What sorts of things are checked when getting your car smogged? I've got a few holes in the exhaust just after the manifold. Is this something that might keep me from passing?
