Overdrive not disengaging. 120-130

I have recently completed a 1966 122 with a B20 and an M41 tranny with J type overdrive. I am having a problem with the overdrive. It shifts in and out of overdrive just fine except if I drive at speed for a prolonged time ie; 1/2 hour or more. When I go to disengage the overdrive, it will not disengage immediately but will take some time. I have tried different ways to overcome this but I haven't found anything that works consistently.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is happening and what I might do? The obvious concern is that I will overlook this and shift into reverse.

Thanks in advance for any help.
