coolant loss - where's it going? 700 1987

My daughter drives a 1987 740 Turbo with 145K miles. The car has been absolutely rock solid for 2 years with very few problems.

Recently the car has been loosing antifreeze and I can't tell where it is going. Last weekend I put in a gallon of fluid. This weekend I put in another 3 quarts. Good thing it's winter otherwise I wouldn't have know as my daughter was complaining about no heat in the cold weather.

I can see a slight leak around the water pump but not flowing enough to loose this much fluid. Other than that I don't see any visible indication of water loss. There is no leaking onto the ground and the radiator is solid. The oil is clear, no milky residue in oil filter cap or any indication of head gasket problems.

Is it possible the water is leaking into the turbo and evaporating?

Let me know what you think I should check.

Thanks!

Wicked Pete
