idle problem...chugging & vibrating 700 1985

I have been having idle problems and chugging vibrating issues.

Please chime in on any issue you have theory on.

1)my car never hits high idle when first started on cold mornings rises to over 1,050 when warm.

2)vibrates noticeabley at cold start (idle 700 800 rpm)

3)when accelertating in all gears between 1350 & 1800 chuggs and rattles bad.

4)Flattens out runs smoother once hits 2500 3000 rpms.

5)I removed plugs and took a picture (which I'm not sure how to upload) and 3 plugs looked great greyish and clean and one looked black and glazed not gooie or wet. Was 2nd cyclinder from the front.

6)I cked distrib cap and noticed uniform roughish mark the width of the rotor where rotor contacts the contacts

7)Noticeable loss of power.

8)Made sure all spark plug wires are making good contact with distrib and plug.

I tried to take resistence (ohm) readings with my sears digital multimeter but I'm electronically challenged or meter is defective.

I touched the contact inside the distrib and to the plug side of the wires looking to stay in the 30k to 50k range to see if wires were still good. Readings were all over the place and difficult to place the pin things in the proper place to get a reading.

So i concluded that i need a course in using the meter.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Part of the vibration is the drive shaft that needs to be shimmed since I replaced the hanger bearing and hanger.

But the vibrations occur while ideling as well..... out of gear.
