164 ’72 Handbrake is driving me crazy 140-160 1972

Hi volvo enthousiasts,

I have a 164 1972 with a handbrake problem.
I know it’s not the best design in the world but it should work at least reasonably.

Symptom:
Righthand side works just fine; grabs quick and firm after a few “clicks” of brake lever. And releases completely.

Lefthand side is the problem: grabs reasonably but doesn’t release properly, then by hand I can turn brakedisk in reverse direction but trying to turn it in forward direction it suddenly grabs.

Trying to solve the problem I renewed the handbrakepads, removed all rust from brake splashguard and applied just a little bit of coppergrease to the metal to metal contact surfaces

Is there anyone who has an suggestion?

Thanks,
Wouter
