1990 volvo 240 DL: where is the fuel pump relay located? 200 1990

hi,
i've got a 1990 240 DL volvo that has been intermittently deciding not to start. every few days i'll go to start it and it will just turn over and over. sometimes it shakes a bit and acts like it might start, but then it doesn't. i'm away at college at the moment, but my mechanic from back home sent me a fuel pump relay. he thought i might be able to replace that sometime when it wasn't starting and see if that was the problem. i cant seem to find where this part is located on my car, however. the diagram i have shows that it is somewhere up under the left driver's side air vent. i wedged myself on the floor by the pedals and used a flashlight to look around up there, but i couldn't locate it. there is a similar white box more towards the floor and pedals, but that box seems to be a different size and shape than the one i have. i also checked under the cover on the passenger side (under the glove compartment...in that area), but didnt see it. any suggestions on how i might be able to locate this part in order to change it? thanks.
clueless about cars,
kate
