From what I understand.... (why is it long).... 200 1986

So vapor and oil mist mixture from the crankcase somehow rises into the breather box through the hole that does not contain a long hose.

The breather box somehow separates the oil from the vapor sending the liquid oil product of the separation down the long hose (which is contained in the other hole of the breather box) simultaneously sending the vapor up to the flame trap????

If this is all true than I wonder why the long hose is necessary.... wouldn't liquid oil present at the hole in the bottom of the breather box just drop through the air in the crankcase and down into the liquid oil in the pan?
