Auto Transmission swap ? 700 1985

Is it possible to put a M46 manual transmission into my Australian 1985 760gle b28e v6 (it has a aw71 auto box at present).
If so which other volvos could i salvage on from ?
What would be involved labour wise and cost wise ?
How well do the v6 volvos go with manual transmissions ?

(ps My mechanic tells me my auto transmission is on the way out)
