start, won't start 200 1989

Ok I've got an '89 245 with a '93 engine in it. I've been having intermittent problems starting the car where when I start it sometimes it starts the first time, sometimes the second.

Well that's been happening for a while now but it always eventually started. However yesterday it wouldn't start at all. So I used my wife's car to jump it and after a few tries it worked. So then I took the batter to my local auto parts store to have it checked. Nothing wrong with the battery and had them charge it up. Go back, put the battery in, car still won't start.

So then I try disconnecting the AMM cable. I try, BAM, the car starts up. I turn it off to determine if it is for sure the AMM, nope. Car won't start again.

So now I go out and by new plugs, cap and roter. I discover the cap and especially the roter are pretty worn down. So once I get the new ones on it still won't start.

So now since this started yesterday the car has radomly started for me only twice.

I noticed that if I keep trying to crank it I eventually smell gas. I'm assuming that from trying to start it over and over but could there possibly be a fuel issue here. Perhaps the engine isn't being fed fuel adequately?

I've considered the fuel pump relay but I don't want to just yet drop $50 and that still not be the problem.

The car started twice randomly so perhaps there's something electrical going on? But that's why I replaced the plugs, rotor, cap. I used dielectric grease on all points. Checked the fuse box as well, I replaced and greased all those months ago and none are blown.

EDIT: I just remembered that a few weeks ago the right and left turn signals stopped working. They started working again for about 2 days then stopped and haven't worked since. Could this be related?

Thanks for any input. :)
