Is there anyway to clearly differentiate an oil pan leak from a rear main seal leak? 200 1986

So after replacing the oil pan gasket... (I won't whine about what a PITA that job was)

the oil is still leaking from the same spot...

it drips off the bracket that holds the 2 transmission cooler lines to the bell housing - it is brown and not red so I'm fairly certain it's not from the tranny.

I've read that if the oil is in the bottom of the tranny's bellhousing it's a rear main seal leak...

...and that if that area is dry it's an oil pan leak (meaning I screwed up my gasket change somehow, which doesn't surprise me considering what I went through)

I'd really like to stop this daily drip once and for all AND I'd like to not have to do a rear main seal if it ain't necessary!
