When you don't want it to come off, it will fall off by itself. Take the assembly apart first and then use a box cutter to follow the seam where you want it to come apart at. Sounds like you are going to grind it down to fit. Why didn't you just buy one that is the right size? :)
Besides, Volvo owners are not allowed to drive around with red tape on their cars!!! We are supposed to be descrimminating and above that sort of thing.
