Automatic trans OD drops out 200

Recently, while driving along at highway speeds, the overdrive suddenly drops out and I find myself driving along in 3rd gear. This is on a 1990 240 with, I believe, the AW-71 A/T. After a while (usually a few miles), the overdrive will re-engage. Sometimes it will only happen once in the 20 miles to/from work, other times it will happen a couple times. When it happens, I can push the OD button, and the OD indicator light will go on and off (but nothing happens), so I don't think it's a problem with the switch. Occasionally, the problem will either occur, or fix itself, when I hit a bit of a rough spot in the road, but other times it will occur with no bouncing or bumping.

I flushed the fluid, with no effect. (The old fluid looked very good.) So I'm now thinking it might be an intermittent solenoid? Any thoughts, or experience with this?
