I have a 1994 940 non-turbo. Starts OK. Runs rough, both at idle and under power. This came on gradually, at first as an intermittent problem. It started as a sudden change in the idle (drop of about 200 rpm and engine running very rough), and rough acceleration up to about 2K rpm. Now it happens at start up. The car starts, but then runs rough, like one or two cylinders are not firing.
I read the faq's, and cleaned the throttle body. I DID NOT TOUCH the TPS, per the instructions. No change. I have less than no skills at electrical problems. My next move is to take the car to my mechanic, or...do a lot of reading and buy a multi-meter and code readers. From all of the reading that I've done, it sounds like a sensor, TPS, or AMM, or whatever could be related to those.
I do OK with nuts and bolts, but have no knowledge about electrical stuff. (I am reading a lot, however...) I have been reading and re-reading the faq's related to driveability, but a lot of the information is beyond my skills.
Any suggestions are welcome, (including automotive tech classes at the local community college...) FYI, I have a good Volvo shop and 3 240's (including my 1981 244 which I drive every day), so I will tackle things that I can understand (incuding getting the parts and advice on r & r).
Thanks,
Peter
