Brake faliure question 200 1990

I recently replaced a wheel stud on the rear driver side, and after installing the rotor I pushed the brakes in so I would have more clearance to put the caliper back on, there is about 30 percent left on the back brakes, after I put the whole thing back together I pushed on the brake pedal to get the brakes back to were they belong, the pedal was spongy at first but then stiffened up, although now the brake faliure is on. I have plenty of brake fluid in resevoir and will replace back brakes soon. I was wondering if the light will go off on its own, now that the pedal is normal, or will it only go off when I install new brakes. Thanks for all the help I am very thankful for the brickboard and volvo lovers
