A Few B30 Rebuild questions 140-160

I am beginning a complete rebuild of a B30A as part of my college classes and I have a few questions. The car is a 1970 with an automatic, FYI.
I will most likely be replacing the cam and lifters. When I do, which is the better timing gear set: steel or fibre? Would the steel set be noisier than the fibre set? And speaking of the cam, Mr. Downs, you alluded to possibilities in Klaus' "Rings for my B30" post (..."if your cam is bad you will need to change it also. This presents a great opportunity but that is another string."). Would you mind sharing your thoughts on the six cylinder cams?
I have read that the secondary butterflies on the carbed engines leak, causing air leaks (lean condition). Would there be any reason to keep the secondaries except for emissions? Is there a preferred method of removing them?
One last issue, carburetors. I know the SU vs. ZS has been argued to death, but applied to B30's, is there a better choice? The ZS are stock, so the needle selection and air/fuel ratio would (hopefully) be correct for a stock engine, but I have heard the HIF carbs can be more accurately tuned to the engine. Any advice on carbs?
