I recall reading an article on that subject. It was on a Jaguar Owners Club site. Sorry I don't have the 20. However I do know that the fix is for the later Smiths clocks and not the earlier ones: too bad as I would love to fix the one in my 65S.
Roj in Edmonton (roj@telus.net)will upgrade your early or late clock with modern guts if you send him your old carcase (the clocks') and about a hundred bucks or so. I don't plan on fixing mine, it can just sit in the dash and look pretty, it does't need to be functional.
