B280 tappets when cold - How loud? 700 1989

I'm looking to purchase a late model 760 with a B280 engine. The ones I've seen had quite loud tappet noise when cold, but this quietened down once the engine reached normal operating temperature. Others have noted this effect, also. The B28 in my 264 doesn't display this effect. Is this normal for the B280 engine, ie is it a side-effect of Volvo's re-design of the head? If tappet noise is minimal at normal operating temperature, then they must be adjusted correctly, right? Would any B280 owners like to comment, please?

TIA
Andrew
