This problem has gotten progressively worse. Car starts well and runs well until just at the point where the temp needle starts to move off the bottom. At that point there is a hesitation that has become a full blown lack of power lasting for up to a minute. When it is doing this it will not go over about 20 MPH. It's not the tranny, the engine simply won't rev up and pushing the throttle pedal more has no effect. After it begins to warm up, it runs pretty well, but there is now an occasional, brief hesitation on acceleration; never bad again like at warmup, but noticable.
Two OBD codes: First says high/low voltage from battery, but that may just be from starting the car when it's below zero. The second says signal missing from IAC, but the IAC activates when I run through the OBD diagnostics and I have cleaned it. I don't see the IAC causing this symptom anyway.
Fuel is suspect, but it runs fine at high speed which I understand is typically an issue for a poor fuel pump. I changed the fuel filter anyway which didn't help. I haven't checked the fuel pressure yet. I'm not sure I can reproduce this with the hood up. In any event I don't see a connection between fuel and engine warmup. Temperature change related sounds electrical, so I swapped the fuel pump relay which didn't help.
No vacuum leaks are evident. Air filter is clean.
Any ideas are much appreciated. Anyone have experience wiht a particular sensor or such causing something like this?
