740 16 valve B234F - What are the symptoms of the balance shaft belt snapping? 700

Did the timing belt, balance shaft belt, pulley bolt, tensioner and waterpump about a month ago. Today, went to start the car up and there's a tapping noise coming from the front of the engine. The higher the revs the faster it gets. I'm guessing it's not the timing belt, since the car would be quite dead. The engine is shaking though (doesn't seem balanced)... So, what could it be? If the balance shaft belt went, would these be the correct symptoms?
