B230F/T with poor cold weather mileage - cold start valve/injector? 700 1986

I have an '86 760 with a B230F/T that has been getting terrible fuel economy when the temperature drops.

Two things come to mind -

1 - does this engine have a cold start valve/injector that could be bad?

2 - the prewarmer pipe (from the airbox thermostat to the exhaust manifold) has been removed (the stovepipe assembly around the exhaust was all rotten, and the pipe that was on it when I bought it was useless). How much could this be affecting fuel economy?

Any other ideas about why the COLD would be affecting my engine so much?

Note:
I use fuel line antifreeze - just as perscribed; 1 bottle per tank.
(Also I try to keep the tank more than half full through the winter.)
