Pinging when 4th gear kicks in. 700 1990

Hi, I have a 1990 740GL and have noticed that as I accelerate it works fine but as soon as I hit 50mph and the tach drops to about 1900-2000rpms the engine will ping. I let off the gas and it stops and eventually when I get up to 55 it's fine.


I'm thinking the timing could be advanced? I changed the timingbelt and put it where the old one was so I'm not sure how accurate it is.


any other thoughts?
