AW71L Gearing 900 1991

Does anyone know if the gearing is different internally for an AW70/70L or AW71/71L ?

If I'm not mistaken the "L" cars ran a 4.10 axle in the 940s. The earlier non-L cars used a 3.73 axle, I know.

I know the lockup is supposed to give better economy at highway speeds, but I'm wondering if swapping an L trans into a car with 3.73's would result in tall gearing.

The car in question is my friend's converted 89 244- the drivetrain is 91 940T. The car has serious power, enough to leave about 30 ft of rubber from a stoplight... but the gears seem ridiculously tall. First and second anyway.

On the other end, the car feels very happy and just wants to pull away at 100+....

Any info appreciated-
