Correct Valve Lash 91 740 Turbo

Hi guys, I am trying to sort out a dilemma about correct valve lash procedure. I recently had the head off my 1991 740 turbo, and after getting it all together installing the new rubber valve stem tip rubber rings that are suppose to quiet the tappet noise I seem to get a different gap, as if they are pushing up on the valve cap and I am unsure if the gap is too tight (don’t want to burn a vale). Should remove the cam again and set the valve gap with the rubbers removed and then reinstalling them???

Thanks, Maurice
