Hard shift from P to D or R 200

Recently purchased 91 wagon w/211K. Runs well but I have a concern about the Tranny. When shifting from Park into Drive/Reverse, it shifts hard with a pronounced lurching. Had the tranny service thinking it needed new fluids as the old fluid looked sort of dirty. There is also a "bump" at around 20 Mph (sorry no tach. in this car) It shifts from 1st to 2nd @ around 10-12 Mph then at about 20, this "bump" which feels like it did a "light shift" happens.I checked for loose a driveline but it felt o.k. Called the shop and they said it felt normal when they drove it and that all cars are different. I'm pretty much a newbie at Volvo maintenance/mechanics and don't really have the comfort of skill/ experience to do my own work right now but my sense is telling me this isn't normal. Any Ideas?

Also a big thank you to all of you that give your advice so freely on this board. On my last post regarding a paint job cost, you guys gave me some good groundwork to go by so I can make solid decisions on how to get it painted . BTW - Where is the paint code located?
Thanks again
T.
