740 runs fine then sputters and shuts down 700 1986

I was riding down the interstate when my 1986 740 sputters and shuts down. I pulled over looked under the hood and didn't notice anything. When I tried to restart, it started back up. Took the next exit and it sputtered and I pushed the gas and it sputters smokes and continues to run fine. When I got home it cuts out about 100ft from my house and won't restart. I had the fuel pump replace last spring and the timing belt changed in the fall. Please help.
