ELECTRIC BUG SQUASHED 700

740 battery cables are all suspect. THey were not as durable as they should have been.

I personally know of one 88 sedan that burned to the ground (after driving from CT to Washington DC!!!) due to shorted cables.

Inspect also the ground cable to the block, right by the power steering pump. I think it's on a 12mm bolt for the engine mount, or right next to it. On a recent engine job, in a car that actually started fine, we found that broken clean off at the terminal. Cable was hard as a rock and not flexible. Only thing keeping the car alive was the smaller ground wire to the body!
