blow by or valve guides 140-160

the engine in my 73' burns a bit of oil and also leaks a little out of the front seal. when at idle there is a constant flow out of the breather cap if the vacume hose is disconected. the breather on the side barley puffs anything. i checked to see if it was cloged but it is fine. there is also always a bit of oil in the exaust.

what can i check to see if its the rings or the valve guides? compresion ,leak down test?
