frequent hesitation 900 1995

940 Non-Turbo

Car has this hesitation, particularly when cold and going up slope. Usually last about 2-3 seconds and then pick up speed and everything is okay.

I have checked for vacuum issues and found none, except maybe the brake booster (frequently experience wavering rpm when braking hard to a stop). Plugs are okay. Changed distributor rotor but cap appears oily, which I've cleaned. One particular Audi car mechanic told me it could be the auto trans, something about lining. For the facts, my auto trans was overhauled in Oct 2005 owing to bad shifting and also instances of hesitation, but I didn't think much of it then since it was not that frequent and serious.

I also checked the TPS that click when open and shut. Frequency of hesitation has increased and lately on levelled road too.

Is it really the auto trans or some other issue? All opinions and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks as always
Laozong
