Overdrive Is Dingy 200 1989

I have a 1989 245 DL non-turbo with 4 speed + overdrive. When I'm on the freeway driving at the same speed, the overdrive sometimes kicks out of overdrive and won't go back in, as evidenced by the yellow arrow appearing and my tranny making noise. Pushing the overdrive button doesn't help, as the overdrive kicks in by itself.
