Black oil soon after change 700 1990

Hello Again !

I have been puzled by the short life span of the oil on my car. Oil turns black with in 300 miles of changing. Car has 225K miles on original engine and tranny. I uses quite a bit, probably 1 qt per 1500 miles. I get good milage of about 24 MPG on mostly highway driving. Car does not smoke when idling. On heavy acceleration recently noticed some smoke in the rear mirror at night. Idle is a bit rough and "nominal" piston slap present both when cold and warm. It use to be only when engine was cold but that was 110 K miles ago when I just got it. I'm running Mobil 1 10W30 year round in Arizona but may switch to 15W40 in the summer.Performance is ok ( used to be better) but otherwise a joy to drive.

Any suggestions ?
