seat-back foam from the dealer... why is it depenent on VIN?? 200 1990

Hello all,

It's been a while since I've posted on here... a bit of background info. I've got a 1990 240DL sedan, 180k miles. The driver's seat's foam is shot. Believe it or not, it's cheaper to buy the foam from the dealer than from IPD (taking into account shipping/tax).

The dealer is telling me that there are two different seat-back foam part numbers for the 1990 240 (and 1991-1993 as well), depending on VIN. One is $130, the other is $220. My VIN comes up as the $220 part. Does anyone have any idea what the difference might be? My 240 has late-style heated cloth seats.

Thanks in advance!
