PV dashboard question 444-544

I am continuing (albeit ever so slowly) the retro rebuild of my 210 Duett. I've acquired a second dashboard on eBay that I plan to customize with a wood veneer. Does anyone know the best finish to use to accept an epoxy bond? I plan on having the dash sand or bead blasted and then coated prior to the epoxy / wood application.

It has since occured to me that what would look even better is a dash out of a 445 or 444. Does anyone know if those dashboards are interchangable (providing I could locate one)? I know that there would be other issues to consider (6 v versus 12 volt and steering column, etc). Any advice/comments/suggestions sincerely appreciated.
