WARNING notice in Bentley manual 200 1986

After troube-shooting a no-start condition,I referenced the Bentley manual and on pages 280-4 and24-8 it gives the following WARNING "do not dis-connect the harness connector from the control unit, the control unit uses special one-way guide sleeves that are damaged when dis-connected. If harness connector is removed or the control unit is replaced, the wiring harness will need to be replaced" Has anyone removed this connector and what were the consequenses? The connector to my control unit was loose so before I pushed connector back in I pulled it off to have a look.Engine started and runs fine, I don't no if this was the cause of the no-start condition or just a coincidence that the engine started. Would like to hear some thoughts on the WARNING in the Bentley
