Leaking oil at distributor? 700 1987

I have an 87 740 non-turbo with an oil leak. I think I have pinpointed it, but I am looking for some more advice. I just had a head gasket replaced by a good independent Volvo shop in Cleveland. After driving it for about 1500 miles, I have noticed oil on the passenger side of the engine on the back of the head and block. The oil seems to be running down from either the valve cover gasket or from the distributor and collects all over the side of the engine until it finally drips off the bottom of the motor. The head looks a little oily under the distributor. Could the shop have messed up reinstalling the shaft seals when they put the head back together? I have read the FAQ about how to replace them but I fear I'll never get the engine timing right again. Thanks in advance!
