Wire that is above + across the oil filter in 240 series - need insulation ?

I am interested to know what the wire is that is positioned above and across the oil filter on the 240 series. I don’t know if it is a ground wire or carries any current. But the wire, which seems to go from the engine block to the generator, (‘not quite sure about that) seems to be getting frayed in my car and I am interested in knowing if it would be beneficial to wrap it in electrical tape or otherwise insulate it.

These days I can’t have a stalled car and that wire looks at me everytime I do an oil change.

Thanks.
