engine gets loud when accelerating

our lovely 740 GLE Wagon 16 valve, (Non turbo) has developed a new loudness whenever I hit the gas kind of hard. When I don't accelerate hard or just
go slow it sounds normal. I don't feel any real loss of compression or power as I drive it everyday. I just changed the tranny fluid, drained and flushed radiator coolant, and replaced the plugs, cleaned throttle body too. It was running like new til the other day? Do you think a gasket or a leak is causing this condition? It runs a little rougher than it did but the "loudness" from engine area has me very concerned. I checked w/ a length of hose for air leaks and came up empty. Any thoughts on this one? Has 187K on it and shes a 1990 which I truly love. Let me know. Thanks in advance.
