power steering pumps 200 1986

Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a failing power steering pump? mine is an original unit on my 244dl and has seen 355,000 miles now. It was sagging causeing the pully to be cocked and the belt to look dangerously angled and the belt to incessently chirp, so I replaced the mount bushings several months ago. I think the issue was caused by the previous owner over-tightening the belt. It never really fixed the chirping, so I have simply been tollerating it. Over the past few weeks the steering has progressivly become more and more stiff, and now the steering wheel doesn't want to return to center on its own after turns. Do these pumps go slowly bad, or do they simply leg go in total? there is no issue with fluid leakage and the fluid level is fine. If I buy a rebuild unit from fcpgroton, does it come with a pully, or do I need to pull the pully I have and reuse it?

thanks brickheads.
